There are many visa options available to people wishing to visit Australia. The appropriate visa option will depend, amongst other things, on the person’s purpose for visiting Australia, and the passport they are holding. Several passport holders, you are able to access Australia’s Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) issuing system online. An ETA provides authorisation to travel to and enter Australia and is electronically linked to the passport. Travelling from Sydney to Newcastle

  • If you are arriving via Sydney Airport or travelling from the Society for Reproductive Biology Conference, the train is the easiest public transport option, with tickets available from station machines or by tapping on and off with a major credit or debit card, and no pre-booking required. Travel to Central Station, then take the Newcastle & Central Coast line to Newcastle Interchange, where you can connect to the light rail for easy access to most hotels.

    Duration: From the airport, the train journey typically takes ~3 hours and costs ~$30.

  • Airport shuttle services from Sydney airport to Newcastle are available but need to be prebooked. These can be expensive and often take longer as they run on certain schedules and make multiple stops.
