Kaj Kamstra investigates reproductive plasticity in fishes. His research focuses on the New Zealand spotty wrasse (Notolabrus celidotus), which can change sex in response to its social environment. Combining behavioural experiments, neuroendocrinology and genomics, he studies the roles of the brain and gonads in this striking form of reproductive plasticity. He is extending this work to aquaculture species to better understand and manage reproductive development.
