Associate Professor Alexander Tups is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physiology in the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Otago. His research focuses on the neuroendocrine regulation of metabolism, including brain nutrient sensing, obesity, diabetes, and energy homeostasis. After completing his PhD at University of Marburg in Germany and the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen he established an independent research group in neuronal nutrition physiology, before he joined the University of Otago in 2014. His work bridges fundamental neuroscience and metabolism with translational research, leading to the development of patented novel therapeutics for metabolic disease.
