Associate Professor Andrew Hoy heads the Lipid Metabolism Laboratory within the School of Medical Sciences and Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney. His research sits at the intersection of systemic metabolism, lipid biology, and cancer, investigating how dysregulated fatty acid metabolism fuels tumour growth and therapy resistance in prostate and breast cancer, and how obesity and insulin resistance reshape this metabolic landscape.

Using lipidomics and metabolic flux analysis, including ¹³C-tracing, Andrew's lab has shown that cancer cells flexibly switch between glucose and fatty acids to sustain growth under metabolic stress, and is now working to identify targetable vulnerabilities in this flexibility to improve the efficacy of existing cancer treatments.

Andrew's research has been supported by continuous NHMRC, ARC, and US Department of Defense funding, and his work has been published in journals including Nature Reviews Cancer, Cell Metabolism, and Cancer Research.
