Professor Brett Nixon
Professor Brett Nixon is Dean and Head of the School of Science at the University of Newcastle and the founding Director of the HMRI Infertility and Reproduction Program. An internationally recognised reproductive biologist, his research focuses on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate sperm function, male fertility, and early embryo development. His work has generated important insights into how sperm acquire the capacity to fertilise an egg and how these processes are disrupted by genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. By uncovering the causes and consequences of sperm dysfunction, his research is helping to advance new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to improve male reproductive health, fertility outcomes, and offspring wellbeing.
