A/Prof Colin Conine

Colin C. Conine, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Genetics and Pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine and the Division of Neonatology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. During his Ph.D. in Craig Mello’s laboratory, he discovered that small regulatory RNAs delivered by sperm transmit epigenetically inherited information across generations in C. elegans. As a postdoctoral fellow with Oliver Rando at UMass Medical School, he translated this paradigm to mammals, demonstrating that the epididymis transfers environmentally regulated small RNAs to sperm, where they program embryonic gene expression and offspring phenotypes. Since establishing his laboratory at Penn and CHOP in 2020, his research has focused on defining the molecular mechanisms by which RNAs acquired by sperm regulate fertility, embryonic development, and epigenetic inheritance. Dr. Conine is a 2021 Pew Biomedical Scholar and recipient of an NIH/NIGMS Maximizing Investigators’ Research Award.
