Prof Daniel Bernard

Dan earned his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University, where he studied the hormonal regulation of neural plasticity in songbirds with Dr. Greg Ball. As a postdoc at Northwestern University, he investigated circadian rhythms and seasonal reproduction in Siberian hamsters with Dr. Fred Turek. His emerging interests in follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) regulation by activins and inhibins led him to a Research Associate position with Dr. Teresa Woodruff, where he studied the regulation and function of a candidate inhibin receptor. He moved to his first independent position at the Population Council and Rockefeller University in 2001. There, his lab focused on discerning the molecular mechanisms of activin-stimulated FSH synthesis. In 2006, he moved to his current position in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at McGill University, where he is currently a James McGill Professor. His lab continues to study TGFbeta superfamily regulation of FSH, and GnRH signaling in the pituitary. Dan is the current Director of the Frontiers in Reproduction course at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, MA. He is a former Board member of the Endocrine Society and the Society for the Study of Reproduction.
