Dr Georgios Skiniotis

Georgios Skiniotis, PhD, is the founding Director of the Center of Excellence for Structural Cell Biology and a Member of the Department of Structural Biology at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. His research seeks to define mechanisms of intracellular communication, with particular emphasis on G protein-coupled receptors and their interactions with signaling partners. Integrating cryo-EM, cryo-ET, functional assays, and computational approaches, his laboratory investigates receptor–effector complexes and is extending this work in situ, to resolve how such assemblies are organized within native cellular environments. His work has yielded foundational mechanistic insight into ligand recognition and receptor activation, conformational dynamics and signaling specificity, and has advanced structure-guided approaches to ligand discovery. Before joining St. Jude in 2024, he was Professor of Structural Biology and of Molecular and Cellular Physiology at Stanford University, where he directed the cryo-EM center.
