Prof John Carroll

John is the Director of the Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute and Dean of Biomedical Sciences at Monash University. He moved to Monash from the UK in 2012 where he was Director of the UCL Division of Biosciences. John leads a research team focussed on understanding mitochondrial biology in oocytes and embryos. By utilising imaging, genetic, and cell biology approaches, the team aim to make discoveries that will ultimately improve options for treating infertility and preventing mitochondrial genetic disease. John leads mitoHOPE, an MRFF funded Pilot Program to introduce Mitochondrial Donation to Australia. He collaborates with Monash IVF for translational research and is funded by the ARC, MRFF and NHMRC.
