John Wentworth works as an adult endocrinologist at Royal Melbourne Hospital and a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at St Vincent’s Institute of Medical Research. Since 2012 his research has focussed on developing cost-effective methods for islet autoantibody testing and on running clinical trials to identify optimal disease-modifying therapies. In his role as a Center Director for NIH TrialNet in Oceanea John has screened thousands of Australians and implemented several prevention trials, including the landmark TN-10 trial that led to the approval of teplizumab to prevent progression from Stage 2 to Stage 3 T1D. In 2019 he established the Type1Screen islet autoantibody screening program and pioneered at-home capillary blood testing, now used throughout Australia. John leads the Australasian T1D Immunotherapy Collaborative that aims to grow clinical trial activity and increase access to disease-modifying therapies.
