A/Prof Lana McClements

Associate Professor Lana McClements is Head of the Cardio-Obstetrics Research Group at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and a Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellow (2023-2027). She is also Co-Convenor for Women’s and Children’s Health Collaborative within the UTS INSIGHT Institute for Innovative Solution for Wellbeing and Health.

After completing her PhD at Queen's University Belfast (UK) in 2014 and training as a clinical pharmacist in London, she joined UTS in 2018. Her research focuses on developing innovative diagnostics, therapeutics and advanced bioengineered placental models to improve outcomes for women and babies affected by pregnancy complications. Her team pioneered the world's first 3D bioprinted trophoblast organoid model and discovered novel biomarkers that have been translated into first-in-class point-of-care tests for preeclampsia.

Associate Professor McClements has secured more than $4.2 million in competitive research funding as Chief Investigator (Heart Foundation, NSW Health, MRFF, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources), over $600,000 in commercialisation funding, and was an Associate Investigator on the $6.7 million ARC Research Hub for Integrated Devices for End-User Analysis at Low Levels (IDEAL) with several industry partners. She has received numerous national and international awards and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Hypertension in Pregnancy and as an Editorial Board member for Placenta and Biology of Sex Differences.
